A self-service station is a Secretary of State machine that offers a fast and easy way to renew licenses, IDs and vehicle registrations and license plate tabs. It also provides the ability to register to vote and to become an organ donor.
For vehicles: Simply scan the barcode on your renewal notice or type your license plate number and the last four digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the touchscreen.
For licenses/IDs: Type in your license/ID number on the touchscreen.
The ATM-like machine will accept your payment and print your vehicle registration and license plate tab or temporary license/ID on the spot!
Note: You may renew, but not print, snowmobile and watercraft registration renewals at the station. The registration will be mailed to your address on file. The registration will arrive within 30 days.
For vehicles: You can renew your registration if your name, address and vehicle information are correct on your renewal notice and the back of your renewal notice lists self-service stations as one of the ways you can renew.
For licenses/IDs: You can renew your license/ID if your name is correct on your renewal notice and the back of your renewal notice lists self-service stations as one of the ways you can renew.
For vehicles: You can renew at a self-service station up to 6 months before your expiration date and up to 10 months after your expiration date (late fees may apply).
For licenses/IDs: You can renew up to 1 year before your expiration date. If you renew after your expiration date, late fees may apply.
Along with your renewal cost and any late fees (if applicable), there is a $4.25 service fee for each license, ID and vehicle renewed at the station. Additionally, there is a 2.3% credit card processing fee.
If you choose to renew online or in the branch, there is a similar credit card processing fee.
Credit and debit cards are accepted at all locations. Cash payments are accepted at select locations.
